KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS Christopher Greeley, MD, MS, FAAP Christopher Greeley, MD, MS, FAAP is Chief of the Section of Public Health and Primary Care at Texas Children’s Hospital; the first such section in the country. He is Professor and Vice-Chair for Community Health in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. Greeley is board certified in General Pediatrics as well as Child Abuse Pediatrics, and is a member of the AMA and the AAP. Greeley is involved in several national and statewide organizations focused on Child Abuse. He is the current president of the Ray E.
Helfer Society; the international society for physicians working in the field of child maltreatment and was appointed chair of the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Task Force for Texas. Greeley also served on the Board of Directors of Prevention Child Abuse America from 2005-2014 and was Chair for 2009-2013. He was elected to the American Pediatric Society in 2017. Greeley will present the keynote, “” The presentation will examine how the strategies for prevention of child abuse have changed over time and discuss prevention strategies that could target various childhood adversities. PLENARY PRESENTATION Jamerika Haynes, BA A native of Tacoma, Washington, Jamerika Haynes has more than ten years of experience as a journalist and advocate for children in foster care. While growing up in foster care, Jamerika was determined to have a different life than the one she experienced. She put herself through college earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Washington State University. She has previously worked for the YMCA of Greater Seattle and the Press Enterprise in Riverside, California. Jamerika currently owns and operates Clever Jam Communications, a consulting firm offering strategic communications guidance, motivational speaking, and facilitation. “I formed Clever Jam to help people better serve children & families in child welfare. It is my hope I inspire people to share their stories and create change in their communities.” Jamerika will present the plenary titled, “ My Life, My Way: Overcoming Adversity in Foster Care.” In this presentation, Jamerika will share her experience in foster care, the challenges and uncertainties she faced, and how a meeting with a caring adult changed her life and ultimately led to the healing she sought during her life.
Jamerika will also present the workshop, “Our Girls, Our Communities: The Experience of Black Girls & Adolescents in Foster Care.” OUT OF STATE PRESENTERS MaryJo Alimena Caruso, MEd MaryJo Alimena Caruso, MEd is a Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator at FRIENDS National Center for Community Based Child Abuse Prevention. MaryJo has over 23 years experience in the delivery of services and in the provision of training and technical assistance for child welfare and human service professionals. She has experience in statewide and national initiatives with program planning and design, curricula and resource development and dissemination, product/material creation, fiscal management, and a focus on quality assurance, best practices and outcome data. In addition, MaryJo has worked to develop respite resources and serves as an adjunct faculty member and field supervisor for local universities’ social work and rehabilitation counseling programs.
MaryJo will be presenting two workshops: “Building Effective Parent/Practitioner Collaboration” and “Building a Stronger Team: Engaging Fathers and Paternal Family Members.”. Campbell, BS Andrew Campbell is a national expert on domestic violence and the associated risks of harm for adults, children, and animals residing in homes where this violence occurs. Utilizing cutting-edge data analysis and a unique perspective on violence in the home, he provides education for agencies across the United States and assists in developing more efficient and effective community responses to physical and emotional violence. Andrew’s several recent publications in major academic journals include his analysis of nearly 10,000 first responder reports and observations from the scene of domestic violence incidents occurring in Marion County, Indiana and are the first studies in academic literature to use law enforcement data to quantify risk of harm/injury in these homes to this degree.
